Hi! I’m Addie, born and raised in Southern California. My early interest in fashion, stemmed from my love of ballet and all of the costuming that went along with it. My love for clothing and styling blossomed even more, growing up shopping and working at swap meets throughout SoCal. I have since pursued both passions of mine while in college; dancing on the UC Davis Dance Team and learning creative display skills as a visual display intern at Anthropologie. I am sucker for anything tie-dye, vintage clothing, candles, beautiful and bright bedding, turquoise jewelry, tattoos, chunky rings, sky high heels, free people, coffee, and home décor magazines. I am so excited to be a part of the Textstyles blog and can’t wait to share my thoughts, opinions, and inspirations with all of you!

Earliest fashion memory: When I was about 3 or 4 years old, I used to sneak into my mom's closet while she was taking a nap and try on all her high heels, just staring in the mirror, imagining what it'd be like once my feet grew big enough to fit shoes like that.
Favorite Quote: Not necessarily my favorite, but a quote I often repeat to myself is anonymously quoted, "Laugh and the world laughs with you; cry and the world laughs at you."

I was born on October 5, 1992 in Landstuhl, Germany to a wonderful, loving, Filipino-American, and rather large family.  My father was in the military for the majority of my childhood, and thus sparked my love for traveling and experiencing different cultures.  Things I enjoy doing include cheerleading, going shopping, making collages, meeting new people, and dancing hula.  My ultimate dream is to have a family of my own and to have a successful career that allows me to do most, if not all, of the the previous things I mentioned I was passionate about.  I love getting involved in various activities, clubs, organizations and fun things I feel will benefit other people.  I am always willing to help and consider myself a very open-minded person.  The last little fact I'd like you to know about me is my favorite color is purple, and it has without a doubt become my obsession...my identifier...my "thing."  I think everyone should have one =]

Someone once told me that to achieve happiness in your life, you should pursue something you are truly passionate about. To me, this passion has and always will be fashion. I am in love with the way fashion speaks- through clothes, music, art, pretty much anything you can think of! I cannot get enough of all the ways in which you can express yourself through clothing, all the things your personal style can represent or say about you, and how fashion, all of that can change in a blink of an eye. When I'm not obsessing over the latest trends, you can find me cheering on the Giants at AT&T park, perusing racks of vintage clothing, drinking tapioca while texting on my iPhone, chillin' hella hard with my friends, and just enjoying all of life's little wonders.

Hey guys I'm Elika! A bit about myself, I was born in the bay area and moved to the east cost for a couple years then moved back at the age of 8. At the age of 11 I moved to Davis, and have been here since. Throughout the years I have travelled to the Middle East and Europe, where I was exposed to different cultures and styles, and have been inspired to major in textiles. Another influence was when I was 5 and I began helping my mom design and sew my Halloween costumes. From there sketching became one of my main hobbies along with listening to music, hanging out with friends, reading and cooking. I'm super excited about being part of the Textiles Blog this quarter! Hope you guys like it! :)

I was obsessed with it and would constantly wear it around with my purple suede cowboy boots that I was also crazy about. I always new what I wanted when it came to fashion and my vivid imagination played an important role when it came to expressing myself.
Favorite Quote: “This being human is a guest house. Every morning is a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all. Treat each guest honorably. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”- Rumi

Hi, my name is Ghazi. Fashion has always been very important to me because it is a way for me to express my imagination as well as who I am without the use of words. When it comes to embellishing my body, I like to mix different colors, textures and prints. I don't think that anything is too bizarre to combine together. I am inspired by landscapes, art, vintage treasures, and all the unique cultures and places of the world. I hope that my articles inspire you to express who you are with no limits!

I remember being in elementary school and drawing up different outfits in my sketchbook, labeling all the specific details of my creation and everything. I came up with my own clothing line, just the ambitious dream of a young kid. I never knew it would end up being the field I'd grow up to pursue over everything else. Something that really influenced that decision was the various mission trips I've been on all over the world. When I saw the need in these countries I became driven to help through one of the things I'm most passionate about: fashion. My dream is that one day I will be able to either start or work for a non-profit that uses the remarkable world of textiles to give aid to third world countries.

Teen Vogue was my gateway magazine, and my introduction to fashion. Before I started subscribing to the magazine, I had no particular interest in fashion at all. But after looking at the glossy pages full of style, trends, makeup, and Kate Moss, I realized that I wanted to work in the fashion industry. As my clothing motives shifted from practicality to being more fashionable, my parents stopped funding my fashion excursions. While they wouldn’t buy me any more clothes, they would buy me fabric- so I learned how to sew. Today I still sew a lot of my own clothes, and I currently work in the Costume Shop at the UC Davis Theater Department.

She says that clearly not much has changed, as I am constantly obsessing over what to wear no matter where I go.
Favorite Quote: A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous. –Coco Chanel

Hey there, my name is Nicole, and I am so excited to share my thoughts about fashion with you! When the other kids in school were busy playing sports, making music, creating science fair projects, or competing in speech and debate, I always knew I didn’t belong in any of those activities because fashion was my thing. My last 3 years of high school, I was an intern on the Nordstrom BP. Fashion Board, where I was able to meet all sorts of incredible people, learn about their careers, and, of course, learn about CLOTHES. I’m currently a member of the UC Davis Student Fashion Association, a part of the Mobility hip-hop crew here at Davis, and a member of Alpha Phi. My all-time favorite item to buy is shoes. Some other favorite things of mine include Starbucks, Parachute, glitter nailpolish, cheese, coconut cake, 90210, my dog, Miko, and my bunny, Karl.

Furthermore, I decided to minor in textiles because I love fashion, I love clothes. Also because I wanted to learn more about texiles and fashion! So far I'm currently taking TXC 107 and I love it! I never have a set style - it's all about how I'm feeling on certain days, but usually you will catch me in a dress no matter what the season is! When I finally have a moment of peace, I usually like to catch up with friends, read, and sew with a cup of green tea on the side. I'm a very adventurous girl so I love experiencing and learning new things - hiking, boarding, traveling, dining, I'm always up for it! This quarter, my main focus will be on my upcoming collection for the spring fashion show! I am so excited for another fabulous quarter at UCD!!!

When I'm not obsessing over fashion, I'm looking for the next best place to eat. I am a huge foodie and love trying new things! I'll soon be returning to the bay in June after I finish my last year here at UC Davis. Bittersweet doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling right now but I am excited for the rest of the year and for my second year writing for this blog!
